At road.cc every product is thoroughly tested for as long as it takes to get a proper insight into how well it works. Our reviewers are experienced cyclists that we trust to be objective. While we strive to ensure that opinions expressed are backed up by facts, reviews are by their nature an informed opinion, not a definitive verdict. We don't intentionally try to break anything (except locks) but we do try to look for weak points in any design. The overall score is not just an average of the other scores: it reflects both a product's function and value – with value determined by how a product compares with items of similar spec, quality, and price.

The Elite Ciussi inox bottle cage is, as the name implies, made from stainless steel. It’s got the distinctive Elite ‘buttons’, which is a look you either like or don’t. I’m in the latter camp; I like a minimalist look for my bottle cages.

You might think steel’s a bit of an odd material to make bottle cages out of, but this actually works remarkably well. It’s quite springy and flexible which means that it’s got more give than a carbon or aluminium bottle cage. This makes taking the bottle out and putting it back much easier, while still holding on to the bottle firmly when it’s in the cage. It’s pretty light too, at 48 grams.

While it’s advertised to work with most bottles, I’ve found that it works better with some than others, the flexibility of the cage means that if you’ve got a bottle that’s shaped ‘wrong’ for the cage a rattling sound can develop on uneven surfaces.

Verdict

With the right bottle, it's a good bottle cage and it's pretty light too. It is however on the expensive side and doesn't have any clear advantages over cheaper alloy units.

Pretty light, but the steel flexibility has its pros and cons.
