RITMO Rating

Ahoy you wonderful pedalling folks,
Cycling Weekly have created a handicap system to see how you compare with others. Sign up, sync with Strava and get your rating. (Actually, I needed to then go to the leaderboard and search for my surname to find it)

You need a minimum of 3 x 10 mile recent rides to get a rating. They range from 28 (in which case, well done for completing 3 x 10 mile rides) to 0 (your knee's ok really, isn't it, Brad?)

Mine is 9.7

I await many messages telling me how much quicker you lot are!

If you're new please join in and if you have questions pop them below and the forum regulars will answer as best we can.

Deleted my profile. Very glad I didn't pay for it. The whole thing is nuts, it's like something a child has dreamt up.

This is completely bobbins! Not only one of the worst websites I've ever seen, the ratings algorithm is all over the place.

The longest climb (15km at 6%) from my recent Mallorca trip rates as a 24.2, my basic commute today with multiple traffic lights as 21.7. Both took about an hour: I can tell you which was a more intense ride and it wasn't the commute!

I get under 10 for my standard saturday 2 hour rides out into Essex but I'm definitely not pushing as hard on these as on the hilly rides in Mallorca.

Needs some work.

I've deleted my profile. I don't think the change of winning the bike is high enough to keep it around just for that. I'm unsure of the privacy of the data. The score is vaguely interesting but not so useful to me. It seems to vary a fair amount by ride type, which means I can't use it to predict performance on any proposed ride with friends.

I may have to create two accounts having two very different bikes on which I expect two different scores.

I've uploaded a few rides and have two on my faster bike, scores 13.7 and 14.5. (That gated road can't have helped). My average is brought down by a ride on a tricycle cargo towing machine which scored 23.0. I wonder how it chooses which rides to score, as there are plenty of good rides on my road going bike which are not scored. Interesting to see the penalty for the cargo bike though.

It's 10 miles not 10K. Most of my rides are lunch hour (due to the joys of kids taking the rest of my free time), so are shorter.

the algorithm definitely needs work. i did an hour's training up at the circuit last night, 20 mins moderate with some sprints, 20 mins spinning round and chatting and 20 mins pace line. score for that was 1.9, i'm now down to 3.3 overall. if i was a golfer playing off 3, i'd be a very good golfer. but i'm not a very good cyclist 39

I'm a little annoyed with myself for signing up to this, just to see what the RiTMO thing was all about. It is essentially a clumsy, Strava-esque attempt to get punters to sign up into Cycling Weekley's online experience, with a gimmick called RiTMO.

I don't understand how the RiTMO value is generated and therefore don't know how to make it better or worse. The interface is dated and links regularly drive you into parts of the CW website.

There are also attempts to replicate the Strava badges for riding certain distances in a specified time period, which sit in the same part of the screen!

I'll stick to Strava with it's nice interface and oodles of real data that make me think I'm better than I am!

I'm 65, so a rating system that isn't age adjusted has no interest for me.

mine varies from 9 to 18 did a 110k at the weekend and got a 14 with average speed of 16mph and a few days before I did a 27k with average of 19mph with an 11 ritmo, I'm going to keep on using it, but would of thought the longer distance would of given a lower handicap score. I would be interested to see the formula

2.7 and that's during exam season. It'll probably drop off when I don't need an excuse!

it wouldn't upload my epic 400km brevet cymru because it was 'over the file size limit'. so i've decided it's for pussies.

I uploaded all my Strava data which covers commutes, weekend rides & events (audaxes & sportives). Somewhat gob-smacked to get 4.8 for a 52-year old who is slightly overweight (or under-height!) seemed a little low UNLESS these factors are included which the site seems to say are not...

I got a 4. As such, given my complete lack of talent on a bike, it must be deeply deeply flawed! None of my individual rides get (anywhere near) as low as 4 so I'm not quite sure what metrics they use. If it's as simple as distance/speed/elevation then it might get to the point where it penalises slow cafe rides and commutes?

Well that's odd, worth contacting the helpdesk - they're after feedback.

I signed up yesterday and have an overall rating of 7.7. Not sure how much I agree with the ratings really - I sometimes do a 2 hour hilly loop that I reckon I blast through - for these rides I score around 15. I have some club runs which take 4 hours or so scoring below 7 but which I don't think I ride so hard. So maybe the distance is a big factor here?

Cool stuff. Is that overall, or the lowest rating for the rides you uploaded? My lowest inidivudal ride was 9.3.
