La Vuelta 2019
Just had my first look at the route and details of the race.
Looks like there is a big change in the points competition this year. Some stage have 5 intermediate sprints, some have only one and a lot of the intermediate sprints are half way up a climb. There is one on the flat 2km from the start of a mountain stage.
I have no idea how points are going to be awarded, I can't find a copy of the rules anywhere but it looks like they are trying to create a more competitive competition, which can be won by sprinters, climbers, puncheurs or breakers. Dr Winston should like this.
Interestingly the most competitive rider is chosen by the public via social media.

wow, I screwed that up. Was tossing up between Majka and Guerreiro and went the more risky option while in the lead.....oh well, back to playing catch up, nice and bunched top 10, choices for the last few stages will be interesting!!
I went for Kelderman over Majka for some bizarre reason. I still have a few changes left, one for tomorrow and then the sprinters in for Madrid.
So three stages left and MY standard Vuelta has been a mess. I never seem to have had a clue really, but I am currently 6th in the purist just 24 points off the leader and its really open, all seem to have 4 of the top five, but only a couple of us have a sprinter in Bennett. it's going to be very close.
I've managed to ompletley screw up my Vuelta the last few stages.
Too much time to think now I'm back from holiday.
Wow what a race. Even in a Vuelta of audacious long range attacks sticking, that was incredible. Best grand tour by miles this year (even if it made a complete mockery of my fantasy teams...)
Rescored stage 21. Richeze apparently got a bit physical and was relegated from 10th to 97th.
Might depend a little on number of transfers available too. Though feeling the need to use them can be counter productive.
Are all fantasy games not like that?..the more you know the more you talk yourself out of the blindingly obvious.
I could do to make a second team called “the blindingly obvious” that I spend exactly 2 minutes on...and pitch it against my actual team...i’m Sure it would win by a very long way.
More making stupid decisions playing catch-up.
I can see Aranburu winning the stage today now I have taken him out. One of those weeks.
Why was Walscheid relegated ?
I couldn't spot anything.
Team done. Avoided Aru, cheap as he is, until another day. Did really well on stage 2 but today is a whole bigger ball game...i hope he survives well.
No idea who wins today but could be somebody as left field as Soler or Herrada...whoever it is the ones i really want to do well are Aru, Chaves and Latour...for differing reasons.

I was tempted to add another rider for the break but .......
Looks like my hunch about Herrada was right (amongst others) pity i didn't pick him...not sure the other two riders have enough about them to make it stick though. Madraza over Aru looks like it might be ok though.
Anyone else just spent the stage not realising they had the wrong Herrada?
Anybody taking a gamble tomorrow?
Today was very interesting with nobody really bothering much chasing down the break...same again tomorrow? I can see no reason why it would be any different.
Decimating stage so far
Uran, Roche, Carthy & De La Parte all retired after a crash in the bunch.
Hopefully none are hurt badly.
Missed the entire thing today due to Ikea shopping...grrrr....

Stage pretty much worked as I thought today...i fancied Herrada to do well in a stage sometime (as above) but then again i’ve felt this race is set up for a series of Herrada’s and plenty of them. On balance I think I would have gone for TDG or Soler if i’d have made any changes....so...pffft....
I doubt this will happen very often.
Uran has left a big hole in my team....So my choices are...Uran > oldest rider in the race (Valverde) or Uran > youngest rider in the race (Pogacar).

No break after 40kms after Cavagna and Storer were dangled out in front at 20-40 seconds for quite a while. This could be an epic day if they get to that first climb all together....surely not...
Just Uran > Pogacar for me today. Not thrilled about keeping Higuita because he looks a bit off....he can go tomorrow.
Surprised you ditched Teuns Minardi....he may keep the jersey today and tomorrow with that healthy lead.

I have 33 transfers left. I'm definitely taking out Chaves, but the stage is really hard to call. I might make a couple to see how it goes.
And I did screw up BinckBank, and the Tour, pretty badly. I'm going for a more prudent approach this time.

For me a rider from the break will probably win, and I have no idea who.
Waiting for the race situation to calm down before I reveal which 3 riders I got in. I kept Madrazo, Roglic, Lopez, Valverde, and Quintana.
1 out of 3. I got in Aranburu who's made it. I felt sure it was a De Gendt day, but alas. Same for Padun. I considered Jesus Herrada, Teuns, Sanchez, Henao, and Stybar, who have all made it.
For stage 8 should Jakobsen score 1 point rather than 2 points (for 5th place in pointsjersey).
