Cyclist dies after colliding with parked car in York

Police appeal for witnesses after fatal crash on Sunday evening

A cyclist has died after colliding with a parked car in York.

North Yorkshire Police were called to the incident on the city’s Holgate Road at 7.15pm on Sunday evening.

The bike rider, a 51-year-old man, was taken to Leeds Royal Infirmary with serious head injuries, but died on Monday.

Police say that his next of kin have been informed, but are not yet able to release details of his identity.

Officers are urging anyone who witnessed the collision, or who saw the cyclist beforehand, to get in touch by calling 101 and quoting reference number 12190062550.

The cyclist was riding a yellow bike and wearing a grey sports top, blue cargo trousers and a khaki baseball cap.

if there's any CCTV they can say for absolute sure that no-one else was involved but sometimes very, very rarely these things happen, people make errors in judgement that cost them dearly. Mate of mine 30 years ago cycled into the back of a parked motor and absolutely walloped himself, he was a club cyclist at the time and honestly I did take the piss and I think most of us do when others something dumb, but it's a whole different matter when you're not walking away from the scene compared just losing a bit of pride, some skin/front wheel.

Condolenses to family and friends.
