At road.cc every product is thoroughly tested for as long as it takes to get a proper insight into how well it works. Our reviewers are experienced cyclists that we trust to be objective. While we strive to ensure that opinions expressed are backed up by facts, reviews are by their nature an informed opinion, not a definitive verdict. We don't intentionally try to break anything (except locks) but we do try to look for weak points in any design. The overall score is not just an average of the other scores: it reflects both a product's function and value – with value determined by how a product compares with items of similar spec, quality, and price.

There are socks that languish at the back of the drawer and others that seem to be always in the wash cycle, because you take them out to wear as soon as they hit the drawer. The Sweet Protection Crossfire 6" Socks are definitely at the right end of the sock spectrum.

  • Pros: Comfortable, well made, good length
  • Cons: Umm...

The 6" refers to the mid-length, which I thought makes them more of a mountain bike/touring sock than for road riding, though they look good with other light or dark blue road kit (they also come in black or white).

They're mid-weight, too. While Crossfire plays up the "keeping you cool" properties, I thought these were good autumn socks.

Construction is well thought out, with nothing inside to snag on a toenail (yuk!) and no intrusive seams. Once on, you can forget about them.

You get a L/R-specific fit, with a natty Swan logo on the outside of the ankle to keep you aligned. The elasticated ankle is broad and not too tight, while the instep has a bit of compression quality and is lightly aerated fabric for a comfortable fit and ventilation.

Stick 'em on your Christmas list.

Verdict

Lovely to wear, great-fitting socks for a range of riding styles and conditions
