Shimano 1x12 - Confirmed?!

Not sure if this has been mentioned here. We find out tomorrow!

It's 1x Shimano XTR M910 for MTB with 10-51 tooth cassette. My understanding is there's an option for a 10-45 tooth cassette named Rythm Step.

They cancelled a 11-32-11 cassette  project called Rythm Method. Couldn't conceive of all the problems.

At the moment campag seems the most likely candidate for a 12x road groupset, not Shimano

..you can buy a Rival 1x hydraulic build kit with basically everything bar the frame - groupset, Kinesis Crosslight wheelset, Challenge Grifos, saddle, bar, stem, seat-post blah blah - for about the same as a Rohloff 14-speed hub. I'd love one mind (several in fact, for the rest of the family) but beyond my budget.

12-36 14 speed cassette would do me, that way I can use a 53/33 for absolutely everything I'd ever need including fully loaded touring. without the big jumps and still have higher end mehcnaical shifters due to not needing a triple.

If you're going to go 1x for anything except compeition racing you might as well buy a hubgear, it'll be cheaper even when buying a 14 speed Rohloff.

Apart from an entire Sram Rival 1x groupset is less than a 14 speed Rohloff hub. It also doesn't work with conventional levers and the ratio jumps are larger than a cassette.

Since when will SRAM rival last 100,000 km, how many units will you have to buy to match the useage? And you can with modification use the rohloff with STI levers and in any case if you're not racing there are other gear options to fit to drops which work fine. https://www.cyclingabout.com/rohloff-hubs-with-drop-handlebars/

So what you're saying is a 1x11 system that has limited range is better than a 1x14 that has a wider range and the 1% increases in ratio jumps from SRAM to Rohloff make all the difference but  the jumps from a std double to a 1x which are in fact a bigger hike are fine? lol.
