Video: Son surprises ex-racing cyclist father, 88, with e-bike

Stuart ‘John’ Dunn said he wasn’t ‘ready’ to have an e-bike until now

Stuart ‘John’ Dunn finished third in the 1954 British National Championships. According to a video uploaded to Facebook by Cycling Porn, he is now ‘back on the big climbs’ at the age of 88 after his son surprised him with a brand new e-bike.

Not that Dunn had given up on cycling, exactly. He was simply of the opinion that he wasn’t ‘ready’ for an e-bike until now.

His case was pretty compelling: he rode up Alpe d’Huez in 2011 and up Mont Ventoux just a couple of years ago. (Presumably this means he has the immune system of a 20-year-old.)

Alex has written for more cricket publications than the rest of the road.cc team combined. Despite the apparent evidence of this picture, he doesn't especially like cake.

I tried an e-bike (as an experiment at an expo) and it was weird. There was no boost button to press when you needed it. It was always on, boosting you when you pedalled. This induces as strange, accelerate fast then coast type pattern I just wasn't used to. I hope they have got it refined before I need one.

I'm sure the old fella would rather have a weekend in Miami with a top-class lady of the night.  Or is that just me?

'top-class lady of the night', now there's an oxymoron.

Maybe he's just a nice bloke who likes bikes. You know, rather than a perv who thinks paying for it doesn't make him an abuser.
