Shimano fire (source Asahi.com).JPGShimano issues update on fire at factory in Japan
Shimano has apologised for the fire that broke out in a factory building at its headquarters in Sakai, Osaka Prefecture, yesterday.
The components giant said in a statement: "We profusely apologise to our shareholders, customers and stakeholders for all the concerns and the inconveniences that we have caused by letting this regretful accident occur.
"The fire occurred at the surface treatment area.
"Workers have evacuated a factory immediately and no one was injured.
"We are now investigating the cause of the fire."
As we reported yesterday, 20 fire engines attended the blaze.
We have asked Shimano UK whether the incident may result in any disruption to stocks of the company's products here, and will let you know their response once we have it.

Glad everyone is ok and no one was injured because fire occurred at the surface treatment area & workers have evacuated from factory immediately.
Probably caused by those disk brakes over-heating

Yes, a very Japanese attitude.
I understand that allowing an uncontrolled fire has historically been unacceptable in Japan. With close packed houses made of wood and paper it would be each householder’s duty to ensure that they didn’t risk harming a neighbour.
The Shimano factory will likely be concrete and steel, but the culture continues.
Good to hear that there were no immediate injuries. Now a test for the continuity plans.....
You have to marvel at the Japanese mentality: feeling the need to apologise so earnestly for 'a regretful accident'. I mean, it was a fire. You do not need to apologise. No-one was hurt, and those new pedals can wait.
I wish all companies had that level of responsibility.
Im afraid fires don’t just happen. It would have been a pretty major failing that could have killed someone. I’d say this is the minimum attitude.
Yes, fires don't just 'happen'. That was unplanned.
Safety, doesn't just 'happen' either. But there was clearly a proactive back up plan.
Outcome: No one was injured.
Let's face it, sh*t happens. Shimano has maintained a duty of care to the employees, shareholders, consumers, and - amazingly from an outsiders perspective - publicly apologised.
Don't think we could learn something?
Shimano themselves will probably maintain that there is no effect. Retailers will probably claim that due to the fire there's a shortage in the channel and as a result wholesale prices have risen (law of supply & demand dontcha know) and they have to pass that rise on
