Peter Sagan unveils the brand new Specialized Diverge

Here's the all-new Specialized Diverge, as ridden by Peter Sagan

Specialized has roped in world champion Peter Sagan to launch its brand new Diverge adventure road bike. We all know Sagan loves himself some mountain biking so the US company getting him involved in the launch of its new adventure bike does make some sense. He's got style and he does a fantastic job of showing just how much fun adventure bikes can be.

You can read all about the new Diverge, which gets the Future Shock from the Roubaix, and a new frame that is lighter, slacker and accommodates wider tyres, right here.

David worked on the road.cc tech team from 2012-2020. Previously he was editor of Bikemagic.com and before that staff writer at RCUK. He's a seasoned cyclist of all disciplines, from road to mountain biking, touring to cyclo-cross, he only wishes he had time to ride them all. He's mildly competitive, though he'll never admit it, and is a frequent road racer but is too lazy to do really well. He currently resides in the Cotswolds, and you can now find him over on his own YouTube channel David Arthur - Just Ride Bikes

My next commuting bike will be a gravel/CX bike - there is a nice route that would be a mix of road and off-road.

One thing I do struggle with Gravel Bikes are if I want to go off road I use my mountain bike and if I want a fast long ride I use my road bike on the road.

And what if you want to do both in the same ride?

I can think of various areas of the UK where you could combine some great roads with some fanatastic fire roads and double track to really open up a whole load of new medium and long distance route options.

Neither particularly well.

But it depends what you are after. You will be slower on the road on a "gravel" bike (I hate that term) that is set up to manage any off road. Wider, fatter tyres - often with knobbies - run soft are slower than a road tyre. And you will be slower off road (other than on fire roads/double track, where in fairness you might be faster) on a "gravel" bike than a mountain bike. But if your idea of fun is doing both on the same route, then maybe you'll have more fun on a "gravel" bike, even though you may not go as fast on either individual segment. And in the end isn't it all about having fun?
