Series of tribute rides to take place in honour of ultracyclist Mike Hall

Donations to Just Giving page pass £60,000

A series of group rides are to be held in Australia this weekend in tribute to Mike Hall, the ultracyclist killed while competing in the Indian Pacific Wheel Race yesterday.

The 35-year-old lost his life following a collision with a car on the Monaro Highway, south of Canberra at around 6.20am.

The driver of the car involved in the incident is assisting police with their inquiries and a report is being prepared for the coroner.

The race was cancelled and organisers are now planning a ride in tribute to Hall in Sydney on Sunday.

Kristof Allegaert, the man who Hall had been racing against, says it will be, “a short casual ride that can bring us all together to remember a great man, racer, rider and dear friend.”

Four more Australian tribute rides have also been announced in Brisbane, Adelaide, Melbourne and Broome.

Countless other rides will be taking place throughout the world with cyclists using the #rideformike hash tag to dedicate their efforts to Hall.

A Just Giving page set up by ultracyclist James Hayden “to raise money to help Anna (Mike's partner), and Mike's family in this difficult time” has now received over £60,000 in donations.

Alex has written for more cricket publications than the rest of the road.cc team combined. Despite the apparent evidence of this picture, he doesn't especially like cake.
