Video: Astana unveil new signing – trials ace Vittorio Brumotti, and his first ride is a corker

Italian stunt expert makes death-defying ride along bridge parapet

Astana have revealed their latest signing, but you won’t see him racing on the road this season – he’s none other than trials ace Vittorio Brumotti.

For the last couple of years, the Italian former world champion has popped up regularly in Tinkoff kit, teaming up on occasion with another wearer of the rainbow jersey, Peter Sagan.

But while speculation in the latter half of 2016 focused on where the likes of Sagan, multiple Grand Tour winner Alberto Contador and British road champion Adam Blythe might end up once the team folded, little thought was given to Brumotti’s potential destination.

The video from Astana, shot at the team’s recent training camp in Spain, shows Brumotti – who when not on the bike juggles diverse roles in Italy as a TV presenter and high school information technology teacher – go through his full range of skills.

The show-stopping moment, though, is one of his trademarks – riding along aa bridge parapet, with a sheer drop onto rocks below.

Definitely not one to try at home.

Amazing, Vittorio!

More amazing to see what Astana will do to avoid WADA. No wonder Vinceno is smiling!

Impressive acrobatics - but is that a motor powering the bike?

He's cool but the bike looks uncool with a low saddle. He should fit a dropper post,  so it looks seamless between riding and err...stunting

That's all very good, but.... As an Astana rider can he land a good punch?

Good job he's wearing a helmet. Might have been a bit risky otherwise.
