Rapha releases Pro Team Thermal Aerosuit

New all-in-one is designed for high-intensity winter riding

Rapha is launching an all-in-one Pro Team Thermal Aerosuit that’s designed for training and racing in cold weather.

Rapha says that the top half is based on the existing Pro Team Jacket. It has a three-layer windproof and water-resistant softshell fabric covering the arms and the front, and a brush backed fabric at the rear. The idea, of course, is to provide extra protection in the most exposed areas while offering more breathability around the back.

The lower half of the suit is based on Rapha’s Pro Team Winter Tights.

The legs are lined with what Rapha calls a ‘waffle print’ fabric. This has a greater surface area than a flat-faced fabric, the idea being to trap warm air next to the body and wick sweat efficiently away from skin.

The chamois is the same as in the Rapha Bib Shorts and Pro Team Bib Shorts

The Pro Team Thermal Aerosuit is designed to keep bulk to a minimum by reducing the need to wear a gilet or jacket, or to carry one just in case the weather takes a turn for the worse.

It’s available in sizes XS to XXL and is priced at £320.

Who actually buys these things? Who finds winter layering with seperates that much of a chore? I mean, even the most easy going club is going to mercilessly mock you for turning up to a club run in this. Racers generally wear club/team kit don't they? The internet would have me believe that Cyclocross riders that aren't in team kit favour eye-melting designs. Is the target market "epic" riding loner Mamils?

Aha!

It turns out that this is who I thought it might be (and one of 2 likely places, the other possible location was on Anglesey, which looks very similar) :

I spent far more time trying to guess the location of the top image than the remainder of the article. It makes me think "yeah, gotta get out somewhere like that" (though not so sure about the "high-intensity winter riding" bit!).

Much as I like plain black, IMHO it's not a good choice if you want to be visible.

Why wear all-black kit on an overcast winter day?

Well Rapha already copied the San Remo summer suit so it was only a matter of time until they copied the Thermo suit.

And the Castelli suit was on sale a couple months back for £180 cheaper. Which is a combined Gabba 2 top with Sorpasso due tight versus that fugly Rapha ninja pyjamas...

So, imitation is the sincerest form of flattery?  However I think the Castelli Thermosuit is about £100 cheaper, but can't see much more difference between the two.
