How to find great deals with cycling discounts from eBay's bike shops

Your guide to a bargain-hunter's paradise...

If you enjoy bargain-hunting or are looking for something that's hard to find in bike shops or the usual online retailers, eBay is the place to go.

Need a Shimano Dura-Ace aero rear mech for a project ? eBay. Or an original Concor Superleggera saddle ? eBay. Or maybe you can't live without one of the classic Cinelli 1R stems. eBay.

But as well as wonderful and almost forgotten gems like those, eBay also has loads of sections where bike shops and bargain specialists clear out gear at (sometimes) knockdown prices. Some of these are online specialists, but many are sales outposts of proper bike shops like Deeside's well-known Graham Weigh Cycles.

You can find all of these eBay cycling shops here.

The range and level of discounts on offer varies between dealers, so a bit of digging and browsing is required, but we've found good deals on soft goods like bags and clothing, and consumables like chains and cassettes.

Happy hunting!

He was heavily involved in the mountain bike boom of the late 1980s as a racer, team manager and race promoter, and that led to writing for Mountain Biking UK magazine shortly after its inception. He got the gig by phoning up the editor and telling him the magazine was rubbish and he could do better. Rather than telling him to get lost, MBUK editor Tym Manley called John’s bluff and the rest is history.

Since then he has worked on MTB Pro magazine and was editor of Maximum Mountain Bike and Australian Mountain Bike magazines, before switching to the web in 2000 to work for CyclingNews.com. Along with road.cc founder Tony Farrelly, John was on the launch team for BikeRadar.com and subsequently became editor in chief of Future Publishing’s group of cycling magazines and websites, including Cycling Plus, MBUK, What Mountain Bike and Procycling.

John has also written for Cyclist magazine, edited the BikeMagic website and was founding editor of TotalWomensCycling.com before handing over to someone far more representative of the site's main audience.

He joined road.cc in 2013. He lives in Cambridge where the lack of hills is more than made up for by the headwinds.

If it's too good to be true, it is.

Why would anyone sell Zipp 404 wheels at a massive loss? Scroll down the listings then you see imitation Zipp decals for sale. I laughed at the imitation Campag wheels, not even close to the spoke pattern. There's a lot of con-artists on ebay.

I also love the phrases used in Ebay descriptions.  Old junk = " Vintage ".

My faveourite ebay experinces include getting into a long bidding war with someone, then after I stopped bidding. The seller messages me to say the other "bidder" has just changed his mind after winning, would I still like to buy the item? Oh really, I think I'll give it a miss.

Then there was the time a seller had a real nice bike for sale, looked brand new,  at an incredible low price. However he wanted me to transfer the money to him first then he "promised" to post the bike afterwards. However when I suggested I see the bike first then give him the money, he mysteriously withdrew the sale.

A shill bidding war the seller won that he didn't want to.
