We went there last year.
Stayed here, which was small and a bit basic but we didn't want to spend that much

I'd definitely suggest a rental car - out of peak season these can be really affordable, and means that you can get to places you might want to ride which are a bit further afield.
We did go into Calpe a couple of times and it's really nice, would be a good place to stay too I reckon.
Edit - just remembered you are 3. Yeah, you'd need a van probably. We were two, and something like a Renault Kangoo was perfect. You could fit 3 bike boxes in the back with the seats down but then only 2 seats.
It looks like public transport from the airport to Calpe is a bit shit, at best.
There's a direct bus.
Or a mix of bus and two trains.
