Wet weather jacket?
Hi all,
My altura jacket, which I've had for years, is due to be replaced. The problem is that there's so many options that I'm a little overwhelmed.
The budget is around £100 and it'll be used throughout the wonderful UK winter
I've narrowed it down a bit:
Altura vapour
Endura flyte
Endura stealth 2
Any thoughts on these or any other jackets?

I have an Endura Flyte and can recommend it - it's breathability is probably as good as it gets, using what sees to be a copy of eVent fabric. Where most jackets breathability are rated around 10-15000 (if the manufacturers even admit it), the Flyte is 28000gms/m2/24hrs. (The Vapour is 20000). Stretch fabric makes a comfortable fit, chest pocket is useful. It's not a light racing jacket, not a heavy duty commuting jacket. It is also, for some reason, incredibly warm - it has no insulation but the internal fabric has a silver finish, which maybe reflects heat back, Whatever, it works.
This is pretty good - Impsport "Polar" Winter Cycling Jacket . £90.00 . Does wind and rain and breathes.
If you're XS, S or M there's some Altura Transformers on Merlin for £37 (usually £90).. asides from that keep an eye on Amazon, some Gore Bike Wear stuff gets reduced to around £40 for £160 jackets around once a month..

- SECONDED, new ish purchase for me, used about five times so far, haven't got wet yet, the fit is racey and the arms aren't flappy.
Used in temps from 7 to 14 degrees with long sleeve merino base layer and long sleeve top - I expect this set up to last the winter temps with no extra layers required (on my top half anyway).
If I could improve it, I'd have a couple of vents under the arms, but this is picking holes as for £58 it's a peach!
I have a gore element jacket for commuting. Its excellent. If its chucking it down you will stay dry in it. I have a gabba for when its potentially about to rain or drizzling but I dont use it if its already raining
I got super lucky with a (very slightly) shop-soiled Gore Oxygen 2.0 from Evans for £120. I don't think there's a better hardshell on the market. If you keep an eye out you might be lucky.
58 notes = galibier Tourmalet, more than happy with mine. It looks very much like a goretex pac lite, performs better than a lot of my more expensive outdoor walking/climbing gear at twice the price, which is a rarity with most cycling clothing I've found.
