Haha, Sorry, I meant 110mm. I like to think I have fairly evenly proportioned limbs! Even so, the 53 is said to come with a 100mm stem and mine definitely has 110mm.
Im a hair over 5'7 so it does seem that the frame is a little bigger than I need if its equivalent to a 56 frame in other brands.
My husband's bike is a 57 and there isn't a lot of difference when I tested them both yesterday.
So i suppose I should take it back and ask for the smaller size. Its confusing as the guy effectively told me to ignore the geometry info on their website as staff find measuring the seat tube length more effective than going by the top tube length.
110 cm stem? Wow you must have arms like an orangutan
It is because Halfords use a different sizing method from the one on the Boardman website as they take the sizing from the seattube length so their 53cm is the medium which is equivalent to a 56cm from other brands and their 51.5cm is like a 54cm which is the size that it sounds like you were after.
As the other poster said Halfords seem to have form in selling bigger bikes than people need. We did a cycle2work style scheme at work and all three staff that visited Halfords were told they needed a size that was at least 1 size too big.
Sounds very much like the wrong size.
If it's from Halfords they've tried to persuade me on a number of occasions that a bike that is clearly too big for me is fine, curiously mostly when the smaller one is out of stock.
That definitely sounds like you may have the next size up from what you ordered
