A charity that ships used bicycles to Africa is looking for people to help out at the Bicycle Film Festival. Re-Cycle is the chosen charity of the festival, which runs from September 23-27 at the Barbican Centre, London, and is looking for people to help run the valet bicycle parking and sell raffle tickets at the event from September 23-26.
Re-Cycle is calling for volunteers to help out at the London event at the Barbican Cinema on Silk Street in the City. In return, volunteers will get free tickets to the festival's films and can also take part in Bicycle Polo on Sunday and attend an after party.
Volunteers are needed for Thursday 5.20pm-12.15am, Friday 5.20-11.15pm and Saturday noon-12.15am.
The Bicycle Film Festival (BFF), which takes place in 40 cities across the world, enters its fifth year in London this month and will screen several programmes that reflect the diverse experiences involving the bicycle, including the London premiere of the Re-Cycle documentary Re-Cycle, The Journey of the Mighty Bike.
There will also be a variety of bike rides and events surrounding the screenings, including an opening party at the Barbican with world-class DJs and entertainment on the Thursday. Friday, September 25 sees a night of Roller Racing presented by Rollapaluza, and a Hard-court Bike Polo Tournament takes place on Sunday, September 27. Saturday, September 26 will play host to a variety of rides, including a women’s ride and an endurance road ride.
Re-Cycle collect second-hand bicycles and ship them to Africa, where partners distribute them to places where simple, affordable transport is most needed and teach riders the skills they need to repair and maintain them. The bikes help people get to work or school and save time and back-breaking work. They also help health workers reach remote villages and even provide an ambulance service in remote Namibia.

All BFF events are open to the public and participation is widely encouraged. Tickets to the festival are available via www.barbican.org.uk/film. For the complete programme, visit www.bicyclefilmfestival.com.
