The Dream Machine ultra-aero road bike is a winning entry in the Taipei Cycle D&I awards, an event run by iF Design, by Jonny Mole Design of Italy.
This prototype comes with an integrated front end, the deep-legged fork extending up in front of the head tube and then turning into the stem and the handlebar.
There’s a space inside the stem area for holding a bike computer internally, and the handlebar drops come with horizontal extensions that give you an extra hand position.
The seat tube curves around the leading edge of the rear wheel and you get an integrated seat mast rather than a separate seat post. The saddle clamp is attached directly to the frame so there’s no height adjustment here at all.
There’s a custom water bottle integrated into the down tube and you have space in there for housing the battery for electronic gear shifting.
This bike is fitted with cable operated gearing, though, using SRAM Red levers. The drivetrain and the wheels come from Vision while braking is via discs, although the callipers fitted here are dummies. Maybe Jonny Mole has a yet-to-be-released product in mind for this project.
As far as we know, this bike hasn’t been tested in the wind tunnel so we’ve no idea how successful it is at slipping through the air. We have to say, though, the Dream Maker looks pretty mean and it'll be interesting to see if it every makes it to production.
