Police appeal to find identity of seriously injured cyclist

Bristol man came off mountain bike on the Portway

Police in Bristol are appealing for the family or friends of a seriousy injured cyclist to come forward and tell them the identity of the man.

The 6ft tall white man came off his red Apollo CX10 mountain bike on the Portway in Bristol, beneath Avonmouth Bridge, on Wednesday morning, shortly after he visited the Shirehampton high street bakery.

He is described as being in his late 40s to early 50s and has a tattoo of a dagger through a white rose on his left forearm.

He was wearing a high-visibility jacket, a blue Crane cycle jacket or jersey, black tracksuit bottoms and black trainers. Police say he was carrying gloves, a hat, safety glasses and a loaf of bread.

The man is being treated for serious injuries at Frenchay Hospital, but police said they had been unable to identify him despite extensive inquiries.

Not quite clear - was this a single vehicle incident off carriageway?

Given the location could the rider have been a delivery driver, or visiting seaman, not local, and making a trip to local shops for 'breakfast'?

White rose suggests Yorkshire, although it sounds as if the injured cyclist might eventually recover sufficiently to reveal his identity.
