New cycle route opens between Glasgow and East Kilbride

Another 8 miles added to National Cycle Network

A £240,000, eight-mile long new national cycling route between Glasgow and East Kilbride has now opened.

The route is officially known as National Cycle Route 756.

It starts from East Kilbride railway station and continues via East Mains, Kingsgate, Nerston, Cathkin, Rutherglen and terminates at South Lanarkshire Council's boundary with Glasgow City Council at Shawfield. The cycle route also incorporates a link on to Stewartfield Way at the Kingsgate Retail Park.

The majority of the route uses quiet residential streets and some offroad routes.
But the route also links to the following making it extremely useful for commuters and recreational users: East Kilbride railway station, Rolls Royce Nerston industrial estate, Kingsgate retail park, Overton Park, Rutherglen shopping precinct, Shawfield Stadium and Richmond Park.
