Teenager who rode through Brighton Asda charged with dangerous cycling

A teenager who rode through a Brighton Asda has been charged with dangerous cycling. Footage of the incident – published on YouTube under the title “The Maddest Day Ever In Brighton” – was picked up by a number of national newspapers earlier this year and resulted in a police appeal for victims.

The video, shot by one of the group and since deleted, showed a series of incidents in and around Brighton.

At one point the group is seen riding through Asda. While most shoppers seemed to ignore them, one woman appeared to grab hold of a cyclist while shouting for security. After wriggling free, the boy punched another shopper in the chest.

The youths were also accused of stealing biscuits and cans of Red Bull as they left the store.

The video uploader, Wheelie Kay, subsequently posted an apology.

Following widespread coverage in the media, Sussex Police appealed for victims to come forward.

In August, the force made two arrests on suspicion of grievous bodily harm – a 19-year-old man and a 12-year-old boy.

The arrests related to a confrontation in Madeira Drive where a passer-by fell and sustained a broken wrist and a broken rib.

Police imposed placed bail conditions restricting both from entering Sussex. Last month it was reported that the 19-year-old had failed to answer bail.

Brighton and Hove News now reports that 19-year-old Keith Mujuru was arrested in the early hours of Wednesday morning in connection with what took place in the supermarket. He has been charged with dangerous cycling.

A spokesperson said: “Keith Mujuru, 19, unemployed, of Law Street, Southwark, London, was arrested in Whyteleafe, Surrey, in the early hours of Wednesday (9 October).

“He has been charged with dangerous cycling (and) using threatening or abusive words or behaviour likely to cause harassment, alarm or distress.

“He has been bailed with conditions not to enter Brighton and Hove and will appear at Crawley Magistrates’ Court on (Wednesday) 23 October.

“A 13-year-old boy, who was arrested in connection with the same incident, is currently released under investigation pending further inquiries.

“In the meantime, he has been referred to the Youth Offender Services.”
