"She said yes!" Vuelta rider proposes to girlfriend during final stage

A romantic moment as Jesus Ezquerra popped the question on way into Madrid

We don’t know how suspicious Soraya, the girlfriend of BH-Burgos rider Jesus Ezquerra, may have been when she was offered a place in the team car for today’s final stage of the Vuelta a Espana.

What we do know, is that when the 28-year-old rider from Santander pulled up alongside the car to pop the question, happily, she said ‘yes’ – and what’s more, the moment was captured by the TV cameras.

It’s not the first time we’ve seen a marriage proposal at a major bike race. In 2011, Johan van Summeren popped the question to his then girlfriend moments after winning Paris-Roubaix – you can see them about to embrace after his victory in the background of the picture below.
