Police have arrested a lorry driver on suspicion of drug driving after a cyclist sustained critical injuries in central London yesterday morning.
The Metropolitan Police say that they were called by the London Ambulance Service at 9.50am to the scene of the collision at the junction of Seymour Street and Portman Square in Marylebone.
The cyclist, a 73-year-old man, was taken to a hospital in central London and was said last night to be in a critical condition.
The lorry driver, a 29-year-old male, was arrested at the scene on suspicion of drug driving and dangerous driving.
He was interviewed at a police station in central London and subsequently released under investigation.
Detective Constable Alex Price from the Met's Serious Collision Investigation Unit commented: "This collision happened at a busy time of day in a heavily populated area.
“I am sure that a number of people will have witnessed the collision and I urge anyone who saw what happened but has not yet spoken with officers to come forward without delay."
Anyone who has information regarding the incident is urged to contact the Serious Collision Investigation Unit on 020 8543 5157 or by calling 101 quoting reference 188/30 May.

That's dreadful news, hopefully he makes a full recovery. And I also hope, but that's just hope, surely, that the driver gets taught a lesson.
Marylebone is an good enough place to ride but it is still a little dangerous. The infrastructure is kind-of there and there are definitely cyclists. I don't remember that particular intersenction, but there are some streets with some infrastructure but very little cycling traffic outside peak hours and that seems to be one of them. And, as everywhere, some motorists seem completely unaware that cyclists may be around. So it can get a little skechy in certain streets outside peak hours. In fact, the google street view of that intersection seems to show the street view car passing very close to a cyclist doing a lifesaver check.
Might as well let the wankpuffin go now, judge will only say wasn't expecting to have cyclist on the road and give him community service.
If only cyclists were made to pay insurance and to wear hi-viz…
