Video: Bob Jungels wins Liege-Bastogne-Liege

Quick Step Floors rider gives his team another big win to sign of successful Spring campaign

Three weeks after Niki Tersptra won the second Monument of the year, the Tour of Flanders, for Quick Step Floors, Bob Jungels has added a second with a fine solo win at Liege-Bastogne-Liege today.

The Luxembourg national champion followed a move from Sergio Henao as the Team Sky rider shut down an attack from Jungels’ team-mate Philippe Gilbert, riding what is very much his home race, on the Côte de la Roche-aux-Faucons.

Henao passed Gilbert, with Jungels and Michael Woods of EF Education First-Drapac, who would finish second, getting across to the Colombian, as did Astana’s Jakob Fuglsang.

Jungels crested the climb first and, with around 20 kilometres to go, quickly opened up a gap on his pursuers that they would be unable to close down, eventually winning by 37 seconds – the biggest winning margin since his compatriot Andy Schleck in 2009.

Romain Bardet of AG2R-La Mondiale lost the sprint for second to the Canadian rider Woods. Quick Step Floors rider Julian Alaphilippe, winner of La Fleche Wallone on Thursday and like Jungels aged just 25, finished fourth.

Very impressed with Michael Woods and Bardet, Valverde fell short.. a well deserved win for Jungles, a logn time coming, he's been a stalwart QS rider all season and now has something to show for it! Chapeaux!

Did the nasty disc brakes touch you in your swim suit area?

Great performance, very sad for the disc bike users, this was perfect terrain for them but nowhere to be seen when it came down to the business end ... again
