BBC North East just reported a suspended sentence for a road rage assault on a triathlete. Van driver rugby-tackled female rider after she undertook him to avoid a dog.

Story here.

Regarding the yodel van tweet. I believe thats the commercial road entrance to the Rotherithe tunnel. It's 3 lanes with the left lane only for the tunnel - the cyclist is in the middle lane (correct) and the van is jumping a red light due to being in the wrong lane and because he wants to cut the queue (like many hundreds every day) whilst happily jumping the red light (the 2 'ahead only' lanes go green a fair bit after the left lane goes green).

I've seen the same happen a fair few times before. Drivers get very aggressive with 2 wheeled riders obeying the law and being in their way, even against motorcyclists. Was rear ended myself there once due to an unobservant red light jumping driver.

Mentioned it to a police officer a couple years ago during their operation safeway/punish cyclists for minor infractions thingy. He was 200 foot max. up the road yet couldn't care less (of course) about the  blatant red light jumping and aggression, he had an empty and barely used pedestrian crossing to patrol...

Can someone explain to me what the point of motorpacing is...  Surely the draft effect makes the effort easier... why not just do a normal ride at speed?   Or is it to simulate the effect of riding in a fast group?

This. Training the muscles to work at paces achieved in the slipstream effects of a peleton.
