Graeme Obree marshals Scottish National 25 Mile Time Trial Championships

Championships rescheduled from June

Twice the Hour Record holder and twice World Champion in the 4,000m Pursuit, Graeme Obree knows a thing or two about racing against the clock. He’s clearly keen to give something back to the time trial community too, as this morning he retweeted a photo of himself marshalling the Scottish National 25 Mile Time Trial Championships.

Would seeing this man at a junction be inspiring or would it merely serve as a reminder of your shortcomings?

Perhaps you simply wouldn’t believe your eyes.

Graeme Obree’s Battle Mountain film, which follows his attempt to break the International Human Powered Vehicle Association’s speed record in 2013, is now available for download. A DVD is also said to be in the pipeline.

The Scottish National Time Trial Championships are taking place today in Irvine. They had originally been due to take place on June 4 but were rescheduled after the Ayrshire Roads Alliance, on behalf of East Ayrshire Council, announced “essential maintenance works” to be carried out on the A71 a week beforehand.

Alex has written for more cricket publications than the rest of the road.cc team combined. Despite the apparent evidence of this picture, he doesn't especially like cake.

I  was at the Assen youth races this year and my mate, who is from Hull, was talking to the nice Dutch campsite manager.  After querying him about the electric supply or something, conversation turned to Hull, and the campsite manager recalled winning a race there once. He remembered it was a Milk Race back in the 70's. My mate told us about that, so we looked him up -turned out he had won more than just the stage, it was the entire race. Not just that, he also won several Monuments, world champs and the bloody Olympics! It was Hennie Kuiper!

Proper legend, he knows the importance of Hull ...

In other news, man walks dog.

seriously, he maybe a legend, (he is all that of course), but he is also on other human being same as you and me. Wonderful to see him happy and doing normal things.

Not sure if he is better qualified as a marshal - his view of safety at junctions comes from experience arriving at them faster than in a car and leaving the same! I think most would be more circumspect than Obree  at his fastest.

Didn't Mark Cavendish end up working as the part time soigneur for the Isle of Man team at the Commonwealth Games?

He was certainly in the team car, hanging out the window yelling encoouragement at Kennaugh on his long range attack.

Dowsett can be found marshalling in Essex from time to time
