The city of York is gearing up to host the inaugural York Cycling City Races event on Sunday 25 July, featuring a dozen races with competitors including everyone from local families to some of Britain’s leading pros on a route through the centre of the historic city.
Organised by Cycling City York alongside British Cycling and Clifton Cycling Club, it is hoped that the event, which takes place on the same day as the finale of the Tour de France in Paris, will draw big crowds to the city.
Races include the Revenge of The Ouse triathlon, a Brompton Team Challenge in which local businesses will compete on the iconic folding bikes while wearing fancy dress, and to wrap proceedings up, an elite circuit race.
Other featured events include youth races, a family ride and a race for disabled cyclists.
The races will follow a circuit that includes Duncombe Place, Blake Street, St.Sampson’s Square and Goodramgate, after which it passes York Minster to complete the lap.
Full details of the day's events can be found on the Clifton Cycling Club website, and the timetable of races is shown below.
