Video : Cat goes riding with its owner – and joins his cycling club

Russian rider covers 20 miles per ride with his feline friend

A cat belonging to a keen cyclist in Russia goes for rides with its owner – and has even joined his cycling club.

The cat, Semyon Semyonych, sits on the shoulders of its owner, Alexei, when he takes it for a spin, reports Mail Online.

The cyclist, from Ulyanovsk, said that the moggy first got the hang of perching on his shoulder earlier this year.

“It all started when I taught him to sit on my shoulder. I taught him during one day. I cycle the whole year round, but he did it on March 4 for the first time.”

Currently, the pair cover up to 20 miles on a ride, but Alexei hopes to increase that to 60 miles and has even secured a cycling club membership card for his feline friend.

Simon joined road.cc as news editor in 2009 and is now the site’s community editor, acting as a link between the team producing the content and our readers. A law and languages graduate, published translator and former retail analyst, he has reported on issues as diverse as cycling-related court cases, anti-doping investigations, the latest developments in the bike industry and the sport’s biggest races. Now back in London full-time after 15 years living in Oxford and Cambridge, he loves cycling along the Thames but misses having his former riding buddy, Elodie the miniature schnauzer, in the basket in front of him.

That's no moggy, that looks like a Burmese or possibly a Siamese cross.  I owned one years ago, and even by cat standards they're quite loopy.  Shoulder perching seems to be the breeds party trick, mine liked it so much it had a habit of leaping there without warning.

To be fair, if it had warned you first it would have been even more alarming.

Very good, here's you're reward. A picture of a Burmese cat, doing Burmese cat things on Tom Baker.

(I'll work out what this has to do with cycling at some point)
