Velocio unveils Helen Wyman signature cyclocross clothing collection

Cyclocross star puts here name to a collection of cyclocross clothing

Clothing brand Velocio has collaborated with cyclocross star Helen Wyman to launch the Helen Wyman Signature Collection - the launch actually coincided with the Cyclocross World Cup in Las Vegas last night.

If you missed that, then you need to know that the range features cyclocross-specific clothing and features a jacket, jersey, tights and bib shorts. While much of it has been designed with the rigours of cyclocross in mind, we’re sure it’ll work away from cyclocross if you enjoy the sport but don’t race every weekend.

So the highlights then. This is the Helen Wyman Signature MID jacket (£147). It’s made from Polartec Power Shield Pro fabric on the front-facing panels with a Super Roubaix DWR used on the back panels. It’s intended to offer the fit of a jersey with the protection of a softshell, ideal for autumn, winter and spring. They claim it’s warm enough for subzero temperatures.

The most interesting item is the Helen Wyman Signature Recon Overpant (£153). These are designed for the specific demands of cyclocross. Worn during a warmup ride to keep legs protected from the cold and mud, with your race kit worn underneath, with full-length zips they can be easily whipped off in seconds when you’re ready to race. Away from cyclocross racing, we imagine they could be ideal for regular road riding if you need a bit of extra protection.

They’re made from Polartec Power Shield and WinterFit Roubaix fabrics to provide protection from the rain, with a DWR finish, and insulation against the cold. The shoulder bib straps are adjustable for fit and the legs are pre-shaped around the knees.

There’s also a Helen Wyman Signature Jersey (£100) and Thermal Bib Shorts (£135), and you can buy both together for £200. The top is made from a Micro Polyamide-Elastane material with mesh side panels, four back pockets (one is waterproofed) and a tailored fit.

The shorts are made from a Winterfit Roubaix material, to keep you warm, and a DWR treatment to keep you dry. There’s a stretch mesh front panel, a range-topping Cytech padded insert and silicone line leg openings.

“You really can’t find someone with a better understanding and the ability to articulate the needs of the most demanding cyclists,” explained Velocio co-founder, Brad Sheehan. “Helen has a clear sense of what she’s looking for in this clothing and the process of creating it has been rewarding. We partnered with Polartec, the leader in outdoor fabrics to develop some key cold weather pieces in this collection. The performance of the early pieces has been phenomenal.”

Helen Wyman says her many years of cyclocross racing has led her to finally put her name, and thoughts on design, to a range of clothing.

“Cyclocross is a very unique sport with specific clothing needs for all competitors from Elite racers to weekend warriors,” Helen explained. “After traveling the world for many years seeing just about all this sport can throw at you, I felt ready to put my stamp onto a specific range of clothing. I wanted to do this with the correct partner and when I started speaking with Velocio I knew they were right for this project. Over the coming season we will release a range of Signature clothes. These are pieces that capture my experience and pair with Velocio’s eye for design and detail.”

There’s a good little interview with Helen on the Velocio website where she talks about her goals for the year.

HW said on Twitter that the full range will be available for blokes - might not be immediately but it should be soon.
