Design firm recycles handlebars to make laptop stand (+ video)

Stylish item from Montreal-based Oopsmark appeals to tech and cycling geeks

If you spend any time working at a desk on a laptop, you’ll know that it can be a pain in the neck – quite literally. Jesse Herbert of Montreal-based design firm tried a number of solutions including putting objects under the laptop, then hit on the idea of creating a laptop stand made from recycled handlebars and inner tubes.

The Bicycle Handle Bar Laptop Stand, which costs US$99, uses the inner tubes to provide grip so the laptop doesn’t slide off, and comes complete with a leather cable holder to keep your cables neat and tidy. Other bicycle accessories from the firm include a top-tube wine bottle holder in leather, plus a U-lock holster.

Though it’s not mentioned in the video, another use for the laptop stand might be to keep it off your thigh if you’re using your computer on the sofa – if you’ve ever had an Apple MacBook perched on your thigh for any length of time, you’ll know that the heat can result in a nasty red welt on the skin that takes time to disappear.

It’s a quirky product that we reckon could appeal to anyone with a love of technology as well as retro bicycle chic – more information can be found on the Oopsmark website.

I really like this, unfortunately I don't use a laptop, I'm not sure buying a laptop just to have one of these would really get past swmbo...

You've got the wrong tool for the job, and pissing about with some uber-chic nonsense just makes you look silly...

I see there are no comments so far. I can't think of anything sensible to say either.
