Armstrong set for Tour of Ireland for first time since 1992?

After 19 year break Lance could be on his way back to Emerald Isle

Lance Armstrong has said that he is seriously considering riding next year's Tour of Ireland.

He made the comments in response to questions from an Irish reporter at the Astana training camp in Tenerife. According to Livestrong.com he commended the Irish Government for their stance on smoking in public places and confirmed that he was considering riding the race for the first time since 1992. "The timing works really well. I'd love to be back there 17 year's later."

Speaking to the Irish Independent Darach McQuaid, Project Director of the Tour of Ireland, confirmed that talks have taken place about his possible participation.

"Having Lance Armstrong compete would bring the event to a whole new level," McQuaid said. "Even before Lance's statement of interest, we have had major world teams showing an interest. We are delighted that he is seriously considering participating in the Tour of Ireland next summer."

Back in 1992, as our picture* shows, Armstrong was a very different rider, and he was certainly riding a completely different bike… nice though - the bike that is. Obviously Lance's niceness is a given.
