Police in Austria tell nude cyclist to cover herself up (+ video)

Woman goes shopping wearing “little more than white trainers and a friendly smile"...

Police in Austria have told a female cyclist who has popped into premises including a petrol station and tobacconists wearing “little more than white trainers and a friendly smile" to cover herself up – or face a 1,000 euro fine.

BBC News, citing a report in tabloid newspaper Oesterreich, says that while Austrians are tolerant of nudity in places such as beaches and parks, it’s more frowned upon elsewhere.

It adds that police received complaints from people who had seen the woman riding around the town of Pernitz in Lower Austria.

The press in Austria are trying to discover who the mystery blonde is, with the Kurier newspaper reporting on a YouTube clip filmed in nearby Pottenstein showing the same woman coming out of a cake shop – although this time, she gets into a car rather than riding away on a bike.

Gabriela Leithner, who runs the shop, didn’t have a problem with her eye-catching customer, however. "She's dropped by two or three times, I don't think it's a big deal," she said.

"She's not done anything wrong. We had a naked man in here the other day," she added.

Back in Pernitz however local police chief, Harald Windbichler, does have an issue with it, and has already issued the cyclist with a verbal warning "breach of public decorum," and has told her that next time she could be fined 1,000 euro.

As Oesterreich pointed out, "You could buy an entire wardrobe for that."

I just want to know if drivers behave better around her when she is clothed or when she is not clothed.

you should watch the first few minutes of 'Machete'. Amazing what a naked woman can hide.

The video shows naked woman getting into a car. Not a bike in sight.

Road.cc, please show some editorial discretion. This is not Facebook and (I would assume) that most of us aren't 14 year old boys looking for a cheap thrill.

You should be doing more to promote women in cycling, not trying to piss them off.

"She's not done anything wrong. We had a naked man in here the other day," she added.'

The most hilarious thing I have read all week!

So, those that had taken the moral high ground on the Danny Macaskill video seems to be losing their footing up there a little bit the past few days.

Vulpine referring to female models as "hot chickas".

Singletrack promoting a video that featured a lingering shot of a female rider, that happened to go slo-mo at an angle that shot down her jersey as she leaned over the bars.

And now Road.cc with this?

Dont know about the other two but as already said, apart from the hearsay that she sometimes arrives on a bike (of which there is no evidence), its quite a spurious connection for it to be posted on a cycling themed website.

What I find interesting is what the tone of the comments in this thread would be if it was a guy, or a woman carrying a bit of extra weight? Seeing how the UK reacts to a guy walking around naked, it doesnt surprise me at all with these childish remarks (I was half expecting a "collar matching the cuffs" remark as there was in the Billie Piper thread) nor would it surprise me, with the news of Facebook carrying out social experiments with their mood setting, that these few threads have been a road.cc admin experiment to root out who is who in the userbase!

Well aren't we po-aced and sanctimonious?! It's only a bit of fun. It's not like there's never been a story about a naked rambler or otherwise.

Road.cc is just a forum. It's not a church and it isn't here to moralise - though sometimes you'd think otherwise.

If the young lady wants to cycle around in the nude, she can't expect it to go unnoticed and unmentioned (much like the naked rambler, who was, ,of course, male).

If there were smutty or lurid pictures of her then I think the high tone has some merit, but otherwise this is what they call a 'powder piece'. It makes a change from the articles about death on the roads.

Bit of Page 3 about this 'story' guys. As others have pointed out, the only connection to 'cycling' here is that the woman occasionally happens to turn up on a bicycle.

So using the term 'cyclist' to justify inclusion here means *anyone* doing *anything* where the might arrive or leave *on a bicycle* or be wearing a T-shirt *with a bike on it* or have a *surname in common with a famous cyclist* or *anyone who has ever ridden a bike at all* is fair game.

Maybe La Course happening meant we have 100% equality and have erased misogyny from the cycling sphere, so gratuitous photos/video of naked women is fair game for a website people visit to be informed about pro- or enthusiastic-amateur cycling, kit and events.

...and I use the term 'guys' as I would find it surprising to see a 'story' like this written by a woman.

ahhhhh.... so what you mean is you haven't read the comments for the Pippa Middleton auctions her RAAM bike news article, otherwise you would know misogyny is very much alive here at road.cc

Looks fit enough from a distance. Frankly, I wish more people regardless of body type would do it, no other way of changing societal constraints than constantly pushing them. The human body is a wonderful and usually beautiful machine, it's more than about time we all got less self-conscious about it.

There is no scientific proof that nudity reduces accidents if your wearing a helmet 14

Any reason why this has anything to do with cycling other than the means of transport.

Nude motorist
Nude bus passenger

Nowt to do with cycling at all. It's about the attitude to public nudity in Austria. And Austria seems quite liberal on this. Just get her exhibitionists ass off the streets as quick as poss. If she deploys any arguments designed to draw out the spectacle taser her and throw her in the van.

What bike was she riding?
