fred whitton advice

just found that I have got in via the lottery. Gulp!

Apart from start training now. Does anyone have any practical advice? thinking that I'll get the train from London to Windermere and then cycle to anywhere I can get near the start.

Any one got any suggestions?  Losing 5 kg's is not a useful suggestion

ta in advance

Andrew

I don't like to ride anything slacker than a 23 tooth sprocket for climbing but having driven Hardknott Pass (and ridden The Struggle, Kirkstone Pass with a 39×23) I would consider something more generous. Or shoes suitable for walking.

Hardknott had to be driven in 1st gear in our polo. It is steep.

39×23 hahaha, you must weigh about 40kg

If you weigh 14 stone +
There is no bailout gears, just correct ratios to keep you on your comfort zone.

Get a triple set or fit mtb gear set. 22×36 on the easy rings. It has the reputation of not taking prisoners. Hope the weather isn't too hot or cold/rain. Train to be able to ride 100+miles comfortably on a hilly course

I have done a simulated ride over the hardknott pass and Wynrose. Two very stiff climbs. I had 34×40 setup so could spin up. But to do those types of hills again and again over 100 miles . All the best, lucky lottery winner 4
