Not another tattoo thread !?!

Greetings all,

I am new to the forum so apologies if this is a repetitive question.

I am getting a tattoo done next week on my right calf. I love my cycling and have decided upon a simple design which is the swirly logo you see on the telly for Vuelta a Espana but with no words. My other idea was to have the tour de France logo, but with the "Fr" replaced with an "L" and the "e" with an "s" so it will read "Tour de Lancs" ( as in Lancashire) and replacing the yellow circle with a red one.

However, and these are my questions:
1) Would either be a bit of a faux pas in that there is no chance in me ever participating in either event (not that the "Tour de Lancs" exists).
2) Is my Tour de Lancs idea going to get mistaken for an homage to the cheat Lance Armstrong.
3) Should I not give a monkeys because I like both designs.

Thanks for your attention and I welcome constructive thoughts. Please don't turn this into a debate about tattooing itself as I already have one. Its just about the designs. I was all ready to go until a colleague made the point that only real participants should really get a comemorative tattoo eg Iron man triathletes, Olympic games contestants etc etc

Anyway, Cheers and Happy Cycling !!

Apologies !! I don't know how to convert a pdf file into another one that is acceptable to attach. Showing my age methinks !!

Oh! and bikeboy76 thanks for the idea and tho I have earned one of Winter Hill near Bolton, with its telecoms tower, it would just look shit !!

Thanks all for some very interesting points !!

I do tend to mull things over a lot before I make a decision but once a decision is reached I am quite fixed. And I have decided to get it done. I think I was probably looking for hints that it may go against some kind of unwritten cyclist rule, but I am happy with my design and shall proceed. In a moment I will try and be technically savvy and upload an image for public perusal !!
thanks once again for your replies.

As an alternative you could get one like Cheryl Cole's and save yourself a fortune in lycra shorts...

As has already been said above , if you are asking for people's opinions on your own tattoo then you are not ready .

And yes i have tattoos 102

Of course you would have to ride up it first to 'earn' your tattoo.

How about a big black chain shaped tattoo, the same kind I get from a poorly maintained chain 19

Just get it done, if anyone takes exception then you just know who to avoid next time. The 'Tour de Lancs' one sounds like a really good idea

Agree.

I'm not having a go at you Yatesy; but if you have to ask people's opinions it might indicate that you're not certain that you want to get any sort of tattoo done and you're looking for reasons not to.

All the people I know that have tattoos just went and did it. It's a personal thing and you don't need anyone else to approve it.

I got mine done nearly 40 years ago without asking 'permission', including that of my Squadron Commander, who I had to ask permission from to get married. 4

Thanks for the reply.
I may get both designs done as I feel the Vuelta one is simple and the Tour de Lancs one mildly humourous.

If you want to get a tattoo done, I'd vote 3. I wouldn't get too hung up on 1 and I don't think anyone in their right mind would mistake 2 for the Texan. Ultimately up to you though, of course.
