The campaign to rid Surrey of 'lycra louts'

I wonder how many of the cyclists that are (supposedly) welcome in her cafe won't be using it anymore

Now isn't that a shame! Don't they know that every cyclist on the road or Surrey Lanes; is one less car that pollutes their atmosphere. Well, we all know 3000 people living in Surrey; who do not believe in promoting GREEN ENERGY! They want to leave a death-knell-legacy for their children and grand-children. OR? maybe they're a selfish bunch; who do-not want to share their countryside with anyone! Sounds like a bunch of disgrunteled motor-heads. Annoyed you say? Hope all cyclists in that area get their cars out whenever possible; and really annoy them --- What a Blooming Cheek! They got nothing better to moan about? Cycling is silent healthy; and wont pollute the air you breathe! They need to get a life in Surrey. I'm upset that anyone could have the attitude these these these (don't swear) Idiots have. Shame Shame shame.

has road.cc approached the barn and asked them to square their website message/claim and the manageress' statement?

Slow news day. The Telegraph got taken to pieces both by the comments on their article and by other newspapers (notably The Guardian) wading in to slag off the author.

It follows a well worn path - media is no longer there to objectively report the facts. They exist to make money, generate hits, get ad revenue etc. They do that by finding something controversial (usually in the absence of something really disastrous like an earthquake, child murder or similar which they can go to town on) and rather than objectively report on it, they find an angle, a bias. Conflict, anger, something to get worked up about. Hey presto, one slow news day article that pushes them up the Google and Twitter hit lists.

Funnily enough I saw my brother in law last weekend at a family wedding. He lives in Westcott too, in Bailey Road, he said that mostly the road closures are regarded locally as welcome as a dose of diarrhoea.

You would not happen to be related to the owners of Nirvana Cycles would you?

All I have ever asked for is to use the roads as far as my own fair share is concerned. With consideration for other road users. They are a resource for all of us to use, that we all pay for.

How about we all play nicely and share?

Racing getting knocked again when it is leisure riders or sportives that she is really complaining about. I won't be going to the barn again.

Every other week the roads near my house are blocked by Man United fans driving up from London. Every morning AND evening the roads near me are blocked by commuters cars. To cap it all my road was blocked by runners racing along the actual highway the other week!!! In all seriousness, we pay for the ruddy roads and we all should use them without fear of idiots behaving idiotically.

That pic in the Telegraph is the 2011 test event, not the Olympics; GB and England riders filling up width of Box Hill and quite by accident preventing any attacks. Wasn't an option when it counted for gold 12 months later...

I've been on his case to sort his inaccurate facts out, but his response was a tweet saying.

Sorry if this has been mentioned before, but a photograph illustrating an article about the Surrey petition in the Telegraph last Saturday was captioned 'amateur cyclists fill the full width of the road...'

The picture was of the Olympic road race!

If you listen to what she says but replace cyclist with motorist, it shows the exact same problem that cars cause to cyclist so perhaps car should also be banned as well ?

The small mindedness is just getting dull. Where I am from males of a certain age buy powerful motorbikes and hammer through the countryside on them at the weekend. It's that popular that fatalities and serious injuries have risen to the point where signs have been put up warning of the risks. Surrey residents should be grateful for the relative peace and quiet of cycling or take a short break on the Isle of Man during the TT to see what disruption is really like.....

I'm sorry, but she's entitled to her opinion but she can get buggery if she thinks that she can advertise her business as cyclist friendly and then go on national media siding with and provoking an anti-cyclist campaign.

I loved the bit - "I wish I could cycle but I need a van" so obviously their attempt to not look like the stereotypical car driver.

The number of people lining the streets on Saturday in Surrey shows the level of support there is for cycling.

What the hell is wrong with these people???

If its the same bullshit that fill the telegraph and BBC news articles. I aint going to listen
