Easton Aero Wheelset rattle

Hi All,

i noticed a rattle in my rear wheel this morning, pretty sure it is loose bearings inside the hub as i'm not sure how dirt or anything else could have got in and I can hear something rolling around and dropping within the hub's body.
They are an Easton Aero Wheelset that came with the bike I think the equivalent was an Easton EA30.
Anyway, i have a few questions before I bother my LBS so here goes:
Does anyone know if this can be serviced? Any idea of cost?
If I ride the wheel home (25mi) will I do it further damage - is there a danger the wheel could break/buckle?

Thanks for any help in advance.
Joel.

thanks for all the help - so i took the tyre and inner tube out and found the rattle to be within the rim and a little crescent shaped piece of what looks like plastic came out. the rattle has stopped but have no clue where it came from.

i guess the worry is that something inside the hub is breaking.
Have ordered new wheels anyway as i wanted to upgrade but will get them looked at and keep them for training/another bike.

My friend originally thought it was something rattling around inside the double wall rim.

Have you checked its not a loose cassette?

thanks for the reply - although it's not so much a vibration rattle and if you rotate the wheel it sounds like things are dropping over each other.

i'll have another look and make sure everything is tight.

A friend with the same wheelset had a rattle seemingly from the front wheel. He had the wheels retensioned and it stopped.
We did a sportive last Sunday and a rattle appeared on the rear wheel.Spins smoothly and all the spokes are tight.I don't think its from the hub,but the small locknut for the tube valve constantly loosened itself. He's hoping removing this will cure it.Out today to test it.
