Accident pay-outs to be speeded up

New measures from the Ministry of Justice will make it easier for personal injury victims from road accidents to receive payouts. The new system from the Government also means people claiming compensation after road accident injuries will not have to wait years for their money either.

Under the amended process, those making a claim between £1,000 and £10,000 will be able to take advantage of standardised online applications and fixed legal charges for each stage of the process, which will speed up decisions when the plans are introduced.

This means that those involved in accidents will find it quicker and cheaper to claim for compensation. In fact slashing the average compensation wait from two years to within six months will allow about 400,000 claimants a year to get their payments faster, said the Association of British Insurers (ABI).

The news comes after Cycling England, an agency funded by the Department for Transport (DfT) to promote cycling, recommended that new laws be implemented to make it easier for cyclists injured in road accidents to make compensation claims against drivers earlier this week.

The scheme would place the presumption of blame against whoever was driving the most powerful vehicle involved in an accident, so they or their insurers would be liable for costs or damages.
