Cycling is the new golf

If you are in any doubt that the boardrooms of Britain are now full of MAMILS comparing Strava scores and how much their bottle cage weighs then see this 'Ultimate Experience'

http://www.incentivetravel.co.uk/news/hotel/14913-the-lowry-hotel-launch...

Can i just add that mere proles like me only pay £11 to ride the track (including bike hire)
Im sure the £450 the barm pots who sign up for this will be put on an expense account or written off as a tax loss or something.

If you're new please join in and if you have questions pop them below and the forum regulars will answer as best we can.

Not this again. The first time I heard that cycling was the new golf was over ten years ago.

There will always be geezers wanting to splash some cash to impress people, it's just cycling is quite cool with men just now. They are insecure and have to try to impress people somehow.

But I don't mind. They're doing something healthy and if they want to enter sportives, scoff gels like they're going out of fashion or burn money on posh bikes that's fine. I'm amazed at the number of expensive bikes my LBS is shifting but healthy bike sales are surely a good thing. If you ask me everyone's a winner.

I just hope that when they're driving along in the Range Rover /Porsche / Audi they treat us like fellow cyclists instead of some lowlife plebs getting in their way.

Cycling is not the new Golf but the two seemingly unrelated sports/pastimes have a number of things in common which appeal to men of a certain age. In summary they both give ample opportunity to buy a load of stuff you don't need in the hope that it will make you better or add to your enjoyment. Pretty much all 'bloke' hobbies have an element of this. As a 40 + male I have first hand experience of this mania.

Includes food and accommodation as well, but yes it seems pricey..

Not sure this shows 'cycling is the new golf' but if it is, then great! as corporate days go, this would be an improvement over the typical cringeworthy crap you have to do, so good luck to them!

I've always thought of golf as an opportunity to talk for hours.
