Tour of the Borders '13

After the shenanigans down South I'd like to say a thank you to the TOURO organisers and fellow riders on Sunday at the ride out of Peebles. Conditions were terrible but everyone kept a smile and riders I tagged along with were very friendly and moderated their descending to allow for the wet conditions. The feed stop at Ettrick had great soup and the mac-cheese at Peebles at the end was very welcome. It's a good length for this time of year as many Sunday riders are still finding our legs. There was also some local support and encouragement - I think the Borders sees cycling as a significant economic resource to be encouraged - no sign of NIMBYism yesterday. Bring on 2014 - I just hope the closed road status does not push the cost up too much.

What a ride!

Definitely the harshest conditions I've ever ridden in, but I will certainly be back next year.

The organisation was fab, the welcome at Etterick Bridge was just what was needed and the spirit of all the riders made it a great experience.

Here's my blog from Sunday.

Epic day - check out the pics. Who'd have thought a sportive could become an extreme sport...

I'd agree with the comments about the Borders - they're a fantastic place to cycle, quiet roads and the locals are more than welcoming. I've done the Ken Laidlaw sportive twice now and both times have been impressed.
