Ribble Winter Audax: Rack and Pannier options

Hi, I have a Ribble Winter Audax and would like to do some touring with it. A long shot I know but does anyone have any experience of a rack/pannier combination that would work. Many thanks, Simon

I've no experience of the Ribble bike but I've ridden thousands of miles with a rack and panniers. My advice is not to skimp on either item and that if you are going to kit out multiple bikes then buy the same rack for each bike. I've found a Tortec Expedition rack and a pair of Alutra Orkney panniers to be an excellent, robust combination. I've heard very good things about Ortlieb panniers too.

Did a family YHA holiday a few years ago with a standard rack and Karrimor panniers on my Ribble Winter Audax. The rack fitted easily although heel clearance was a bit limited (I have big feet!). I used my normal 23mm wide tyres and hod no problems (mainly small lanes in Dorset).

When fitting the rack, make sure the rack legs are on the inside of the mudguard stays (i.e. closest to the frame) as this reduces the benndig force on the bolts. Get some decent bolts as well not cheesemetal....

Have a great time!

I used to have a rack fitted to my Dolan Preffisio which as far as I know is the same frame.

Pretty much any rack/pannier combo should fit although it's probably best not to load it too heavily as the frame will limit your wheel and tyre choice because of the close clearances compared to a tourer.
