CTC to launch new campaign at Cycle Show

Cyclists can share experiences of bad driving

Sick of almost being knocked off your bike every time you cycle to work in the mornings? And as the motorist carries on blindly as if he hasn’t even seen you, all you’re left with for the day is boiling frustration?

The CTC will launch a new campaign called Stop SMIDSY at this year’s Cycle Show. SMIDSY stands for ‘Sorry Mate I Didn’t See You’ and it sums up how many motorists dismiss the potential harm that motor vehicles can cause to cyclists.

Stop SMIDSY is an online reporting tool that allows cyclists to share their experiences of bad driving and it will help create a public record of this problem and provide evidence for CTC to take the matter further.

The CTC need cyclists to test the reporting tool site and give feedback on how it works. If you are interested in joining the beta-test, please email debra.rolfe [at] ctc.org.uk.

With just a month to go, Cycle Show 2009, which takes place at Earls Court from October 9-11 is hotting up to be the biggest yet, with a massive variety of exhibitors, as well as test tracks, a seated arena, BMX street course, a showcase arena and a Cycling Store.

Last week Cycle Show organisers announced that Beijing gold medallists Victoria Pendleton, Nicole Cooke and Jamie Staff will be joined at the event by Dan, Gee and Rachel Atherton, as well as Scott Beaumont.

Look out for the leading fashion brand Cyclodelic, which will host a range of in-show female-friendly features, as well as launching its 'Girls Guide to Cycling'.

And iLoveMyBike.co.uk is running a prize draw to win the ultimate in commuter bicycle bling – a 24ct gold plated model worth £12,500.

Visitors to The Cycle Show who apply for a free no-obligation instant quote for cycle insurance from iLoveMyBike.co.uk will be automatically entered into the prize draw.

The Cycle Show 2009 is open from 10am-6pm on the Friday and Saturday, and from 10am-5pm on the Sunday.

Tickets cost £11.50 for adults, but road.cc users who book using our special promotional code can get in for a tenner. To get your discount when buying tickets, visit www.cycleshow.co.uk/rcc - the ticket offer code is RCC, and the ticket price is £10.

Smidsy- great idea, but just like an urban cyclist, the server will crash due to heavy traffic. -Hell, I get three or four idiots per ride, and that's in quiet rural East Yorkshire!
