Yorkshire cyclist seriously injured when he was pushed from bike still waiting for operation five days on

Son of victim of attack from passenger in passing car speaks about his father's condition...

The son of a Yorkshire cyclist who was seriously injured when he was pushed off his bike by a passenger in a passing car last Thursday has revealed his father is still waiting for an operation five days after the incident.

Dave Scargill of Wombwell, Barnsley, suffered injuries including two broken ribs, a fractured collarbone and a punctured lung in the incident on Bilham Lane in Hooton Pagnell, near Thurscoe, Rotherham, reports the Sheffield Telegraph.

The 58-year-old had been riding at a speed estimated at 30 miles an hour on a ride with fellow members of the Birdwell Wheelers cycling club when a passenger in a black Vauxhall Corsa pushed him off his bike, which was written off in the subsequent crash.

Scargill’s son Alan, aged 31, explained that doctors were still waiting to operate o his father, saying: “They are trying to drain fluids from his punctured lung.

“They aren’t going to let him out until he has been operated on and his lung is okay.

“He’s in a lot of pain. Hopefully the quicker they operate the better, because his shoulder is absolutely killing him.

“He just wants to get it over and done with.

“When I visit him I try to take his mind off things. He’s a bit upset about what happened so he doesn’t say much. He can’t believe it.”

The pair work together as self-employed gas fitters and Alan said that he was having to undertake extra jobs as a result of his father’s absence, saying: “We’re booked up for three to four weeks easily, and I’m trying to do every job.”

South Yorkshire Police are still appealing for information regarding the incident, which took place at approximately 7pm last Thursday evening of Thursday 23 August, and they can be contacted on 101, quoting incident number 973 of August 23.

Dear Dave & Alan. My partner had a bad fall on Sunday, also breaking a collarbone, 2 ribs & a partial collapsed lung. She had a chest drain in for 3 days, which has just come out. It's bad enough when she suffered a freak fall involving no-one else, but the stupidity of your fall must make it much worse. Best wishes & hope you recover quickly.

If the great wassock that did is caught he needs to be charged with attempted murder. This is the only way people will begin to understand how dangerous and stupid these actions are. I hope the recovery starts soon and goes well.

Feel for him and his Son (and of course rest of family and friends). My wife was run over a week ago today, still in hospital but luckily nothing broken just major swelling coupled with pain restricting mobility. Hope they catch the moron who did this and he's done for a section 18 GBH (wounding) at the very least if not attempt manslaughter. But knowing the Criminal Justice system like I do he'll never get the tariff he so rightly deserves 102

I broke one rib in a tragic showing off accident in front of my kids and the pain was terrible, let alone compounded by another rib + additional breaks!

hope he recovers well!

Let's hope he gets his op soon and can recover. I also hope the idiots in the Corsa receive the necessary punishment. If he sues the attacker for loss of earnings, I think he would have a good chance of winning also.

Black Corsa what a shocker.

Hope the guy makes a full recovery and the scrote that did this gets at least an ABH charge.

Poor fella, this must be driving him up the wall. Good luck to him, and to his son trying to meet the customer demand for work.
