Bryton 40 - anyone any opinions.

I struggled with a Bryton 20 for over a year. Kept getting water ingress and the unit would reset at a whim. Eventually I found it impossible to sync with my laptop and got a warranty replacement. 3 months down the line and exactly the same problems occurred so I gave up and bought a Garmin 500. Wow. A device that just works with no 'features'. Left wondering why on earth I persevered with Bryton for so long.

I've never looked at the Bryton, as everyone in our group uses Garmin's, only 1 ever had an issue (water replaced with no quibble) and we all use Garmin connect to share and compare. Even out on the road, all the beeps you hear are Garmin's.

If you want real comparisons, you unfortunately need to follow the herd!

The other thing is that Garmin's have a good resale value should you want to trade up.

If it's just for your own use and you're happy with the interface (Garmin's isn't anything special, though it's getting a revamp soon) I would just go with the Bryton, it's better value and does 500 Garmin's job at 200 money.

I view this website for regular basis, however, I'm new to the forum. I'm looking for reviews and users opinions about this Bryton computer.

I previously own Garmin 705, which worked great until now. I have HR monitor and cadence sensor with that. No money though to buy new Edge 810, so I found this Bryton, which, possibly, works fine for me. Just few questions, though.

I'm wondering, does this unit will be working with given Garmin ANT+ sensors? Some says yes, some says no (Wiggle guys). I am bemused

The other thing is route pre-loading and its following. I use to upload new routes to my Garmin every so often and found, that I can do so with Bryton 40 pretty much as well. However, does that unit allows to zoom in/zoom out the route for more accurate readings, like Garmin does?

Please, Bryton users, dispel my doubts Any comment will be very much appreciated.

Been using a Rider 50 for sometime now, no probs with water, the website has improved over time, there are links to upload your route (from your collection) to Strava, Training peaks & Fit track. I think the mounting on the 40 is different to the 50, attached to the stem I found the unit would rattle against the handlebar clamp. I taped a piece of inner tube to the unit to stop this! The mount broke a couple of weeks ago, sending the unit down the road!

New I should add - the other thing that bugs me is its colour, blue and white. My bike is black and red. (Obviously not garmins fault) but I think that they should have just stick to black ones like the new 510/810's are.

Was considering a Bryton myself but got a Garmin 500 for £150 w/ cadence and heart rate so pretty pleased. It is a lot of money but it is pretty good. One thing that bugs me about it is the courses feature isn't the greatest, its fine for loops but goes mental on out and back routes!

I am having trouble with my Bryton 40.

Is there any way of starting a ride with out going through time, distance or calorie option as that is very restricting and I don't know how long exactly I will be out on my bike let alone Distance or calories burnt.

Would it be possible to just go straight to Meter and do a ride from there (which I have been doing but then it doesn't record my trip time).

I have the Bryton 50 - and find it a great bit of kit. Although the mount is a bit dodgy

Bryton 40 owner.

Its fantastic, better price than the garmin. Very easy to use and clear to adjust. I come from using a garmin 705 and was used to that interface but find the Bryton easier to work with.

I have a 50 with Cadence and HR, although it's my first GPS overall am a little disappointed.

After six month's had to return it to LBS as it had water in the unit - was replaced by bryton after about 3 weeks wait (a bit annoying delay) - recently I have been making sure I only use it in the dry but have another unit that looks as if it might have moisture in and to add to it my HR monitor unit seems to let moisture in and will not work after 2 hours of use and battery get's corroded and then needs replacing. Tried drying the monitor out after every use but think the seal must be worn - all within 9 month's of owning the unit. Need to take it back to LBS but reluctant to be without it for another 3 weeks.

Not sure it helps.. but that's my experience so far.

edge 500 user here, really impressed with the garmin and they can be had for a decent price if you shop around. i ride in club of about 400 people and no one had a bryton. dont know wheter that is an omen or not?

reviews seem good and ultimately its software isnt it, look at the iphone ios 1 vs ios 5 etc.

the brytons are young so its a learning curve im sure they will improve over time. as in interface and useabality

I really like mine. I've had it for a month or so. To be fair, the online interface isn't as clean/easy/polished as Garmin's, and there are a few missing features (laps don't seem to register automatically, for example), but the device itself is great, the display is excellent and very clear, and I've had no problems at all with the heart rate monitor.

I have, on occasion, had trouble getting it to start recording properly at the beginning of a ride (I think this is probably my fault), and if you're a Strava user it doesn't have a direct interface (and while it's perfectly easy to export then import a .tcx file, this sometimes gives wonky results once it gets merged with Strava's own database ... sometimes this results in _quite_ bizarre readings, though this is Strava's fault and not Bryton's), but otherwise it's excellent.

I got mine including heart rate monitor for about half the price of a comparable Garmin ... actually even less than a Garmin 200! Easily worth the money.
