Indexing issues

Not mine but my brothers sectuer running shimano 2300. It seems to fall out of adjustment very easily? I'm quite bike savvy but do run campag and have never had issues, when ever I see him I fettle it as he's a bit mechanically inept but after a couple of long rides it's stop indexing properly, Is this due to being Lower end group set or do I need to replc all cables and start looking at routing etc. ? He's running a triple up front FYI, any hints or experiences welcome!

Thanks Mat

Mine is a double (usually would say that at a bar but never mind) as has the 2300 logo.

Could be cables, loose or bent or worn derailleur. As well as replacing cable inners I would remove the derailleurs and clean the spring area with a toothbrush and WD40. Pulling on the cable to change gear will generally indicate whether or not there is rust or gunge within the outers. I run 2300, triple (that's what the '3' in the part number is) and like my set-up operating sweetly. Post back if you have problems and I'll take you through the various checks.

I have 2300 on my Allez and they work fine. My dad has them on his one and he has problems with the front all the time.

It is frustrating when gears don't play ball, as I have spent plenty of time this week trying to sort the ones on my son's mtb.

I would start with the cables. Replace them and make sure they're properly tensioned. Sometimes it's the simplist things that's causing the problem
