Tour of Oman Stage 3: Marcel Kittel takes sprint finish

No reward for Team Sky which had led chase of earlier breakaway

Marcel Kittel of Project 1T4i has won Stage 3 of the Tour of Oman in a sprint finish to the 145.5km stage that took the peloton from Al Awabi (Al Alya) to the Bank Muscat headquarters at Muscat Heights. André Greipel of Lotto-Belisol finished second, with Nacer Bouhanni of FDJ-BigMat third. Team Sky's Marl Cavendish came home in eighth place.

A four-man breakaway was caught with five kilometres left to race, with Team Sky leading the chase at the front of the peloton inside the closing 15 kilometres as they looked to set world champion Cavendish up for the win.

"Poor result today. Left it too late & found my path blocked in the last metres. Serves me right for hesitating. Congrats to @marcelkittel."

Be interested to know what happened with Cav:

Train not as 'honed' as with HTC?
Cav not as sharp in Feb?
Something else?
