driving instructor

Being undertaken approaching traffic lights by a driving school car, I was surprised when he moved into the same lane as myself, I was even more surprised when the instructor was using a mobile phone. Question is, it goes without saying he has a duty of care to his pupil and other road users, but is he committing an offence? He was sitting in the passenger seat.

Hmmm it's that particular colour that I've been having problems with. I always thought that if you set yourself up as an instructor that there was some kind of accountability/regualtion for your role in educating new drivers. I know that in N.I. You actually need to sit a course run by the DOE to have a permit before you can be a driving instructor. Doesn't seem to be the case here on the mainland 2

The problem you have is that there are certain companies (like the one thats named after a colour 13 ) whereby you pay a fee upfront and they give you a car and away you go.

With more and more people getting made redundant it seems like a decent job to go for without a great deal of training involved.

Maybe i'm wrong 39

It's rather concerning the skill level of some instructors out there. Over the last number of months I've been doored, tailgated and passed within a couple of feet by 'learner' vehicles either the instructor on his own or with a driver under tuition. The other day I observed an instructor jump a set of red lights. There were no vehicles behind him as he did this and the light was already red for a good few seconds. He had plenty of time to stop safely!! - I've also seen instructors on their mobile while at the wheel as well as while teaching people how to drive.

If this is the state of tuition being provided, is it little wonder that cyclists are daily under threat.

The simple answer is yes. He has control of the vehicle by virtue that he is the instructor and as such he commits the offence.
