At road.cc every product is thoroughly tested for as long as it takes to get a proper insight into how well it works. Our reviewers are experienced cyclists that we trust to be objective. While we strive to ensure that opinions expressed are backed up by facts, reviews are by their nature an informed opinion, not a definitive verdict. We don't intentionally try to break anything (except locks) but we do try to look for weak points in any design. The overall score is not just an average of the other scores: it reflects both a product's function and value – with value determined by how a product compares with items of similar spec, quality, and price.

Salclear TT-X is a brilliant solution to the age old problem of poor visibility when riding motorcycles at warp factor five through the pouring rain, it will come as small wonder that it exceeds the demands of cyclists - whether racing back from the nine to five, romping to glory at the end of season 'cross meet or even a spot of extended touring.

Great for prescription and sports lenses thanks to a polycarbonate friendly formula, it also works a treat on other optical technology including camera lenses, handlebar mounted computers, binoculars and mirrors, shedding silt and spray for an uncompromised view in all contexts. However, while the 50ml pump spray slips unobtrusively inside jersey pockets and seat packs, don't try using it in conjunction with anti-fogging products since even the faintest traces left on a tissue, or micro-fibre cleaning cloth can lead to cross contamination-therefore rendering both useless.

Doubling as an effective cleaner/polish, it differs from most competitors by avoiding the use of simple alcohol based solvents, which work just fine on glass but are hostile to high-grade plastics and polycarbonates. Salclear tell me they've employed a non-aqueous carrier commonly found in cosmetics along with a major ingredient used in furniture polishes to counter this problem.

That said, X denotes external use so resist temptation to slosh it around since it can cause irritation and more serious inflammation to the eyes and face. A little goes a very long way, one squirt, possibly two in the case of goggles and calling their bluff, I buffed a couple of polycarbonate lids to a water shunning, showroom shine in three squirts and two minutes-it's the exactly same principle with glasses.

Since it uses gravity rather than speed to shed water, you needn't be going like the clappers to reap the rewards and this newfound sharpness made showery commutes through stationary rush hour traffic that bit more relaxed. Charging through the trail, mud and generic debris thrown up by knobbly rubber seemed less inclined to stick and in one instance slid in slow motion onto the top tube. The song remains the same haring into greasy descents while mirrors and computers stay pin sharp without telltale watermarks ride after ride- I'm still on the first application and we're nudging three weeks and three hundred miles.

Verdict

Great visibility aid-highly recommended for prescription lens wearers

Tell us what the product is for, and who it's aimed at. What do the manufacturers say about it? How does that compare to your own feelings about it?

"Salclear TT-X is an technically advanced water repellent spray designed for use on motorbike visors and screens.

Not only does it create a water impermeable barrier that easily sheds rain droplets, it creates and oil and dirt resilient surface such that keeps the visor or screen dirt free for longer

Salclear TT-X is ideally suited for use on polycarbonate and other types of plastics..... most other similar products cause degradation of the plastic substrate.

Salclear TT-X forms part of the Visorclear™ product group - a range of products dedicated to the cleaning and maintenance of visors of all types including motorbike, paintball, football and ice hockey, snow mobile, eyeshields and other types of protective eyewear".

Tell us some more about the technical aspects of the product?

"It is based on a non aqueous carrier fluid that is most often found in cosmetics and toiletries. So if its ok for skin, its usually ok for plastics too!

There are a number of ingredients that repel water and prevent dirt and debris from sticking to the visor surface. All of these are very hydrophobic, and a characteristic of Salclear TT-X is that water droplets bead and run off the surface of the visor just under the forces of gravity... so you dont need a fast gush of air to remove the rain droplets.....a visor treated with TT-X cleans itself from water, droplets run off, even if you spray the visor with a pump spray".

TT-X is therefore both water and dirt repellent.

I've been using their scuba diving mask anti-fogger for ages now and it works wonders. If this is as good then hooray
