eVent - where are all the jackets??

After losing 3 stone, I'm on the market for a new jacket to replace my Gill Speed Pro, which has been the best cycling jacket I've ever owned.

I sweat buckets and eVent is the most breathable waterproof material I've ever used. It's perfect for cycling - so where the hell are all the jackets?? I can only find reference to the dhb Wickham jacket, which looks identical to the Speed Pro, but it's been discontinued!

Anyone got any leads? I'm staggered that ALL cycling jackets aren't made out of this wonder material!

Cheers,
mrhallorann

It's a bit difficult to be moving that fast when you get to a red light though. Not all cycling takes place on the open road...

This is only an opinion, but if you are a fastish cyclist then true waterproofs are unnecessary. You will be wet before it starts raining hopefully. I believe a compromisre is called for.... windtex is "almost" waterproof, but just as breathable as lycra pretty much. The jacket I wear in torretial rain is the Endura Windchill, and Ive never been uncomfortable. It only has windtex on the front of the jacket and front of the arms. the rear is roubaix lycra. If you keep moving and you have mudguards, you back very rarely gets wet even in torrential downpours BTW.

Thanks very much for the pointers guys. I'm going to give Endura's PTFE Venturi II a go I think.

wyadvd - why's Windtex so good then? Sounds like a windstopper, rather than a breathable waterproof?

Endura still make one, the Venturi. Vaude do the Casella and the Pace, Montane do the Stormrider. I think Bontrager do one too.

You may struggle to find the two Vaude jackets the Casella is discountinued and Vaude no longer have a UK cycling distributor for their clothing if you scout around you still can find them dicounted though or you can buy the Pace direct from Vaude at full price – £200.

As Dave says Bontrager do the Stormshell for £150 http://bontrager.com/model/09218 which looks pretty good value for eVent - maybe we should get one in.

Ah, well there's a reason for that. The gist of what we've been told by various manufacturers is that the outfit that makes eVent essentially priced themselves out of the market - while other manufacturers of technical fabrics caught up or at least got close, and at more realistic prices so everyone switched.
