Look Keo Pedals
I have recently fitted my bike with these pedals, I have a concern tho the cleats on the shoes are plastic with rubber edges. These rubber edges frey and dissappear within afew weeks of commuting/weekend rides, and i dont do much walking in them either, when your clipped in its noticably loose. Theyre £15 a go so anyone know a way around this? or have the same issue?

Get some Ultegras instead. I had the same problem and switched to Ultegra. The pedals are more comfortable, easier to engage, the cleats last longer and are easier to walk on on our shiny kitchen floor! Never looked back.
There is a way around this: don't use racing cleats for commuting.
Im currently on Grey, they only become sloppy when worn down, as the plastic begins to bend and wear. Cleat covers sound ideal!

Another thought Mancsi - are you using Keo Easy pedals (the grey ones with no adjustment)? They could also be part of the problem as they don't "grip" the cleat as well as the ones above it in the Keo range and I often find myself unclipping without meaning to, often mid pedal stroke, a problem also encountered by my 11 years old son. The difference between the Easy and Plus/ Classic models is quite startling and I decided a while back that I wouldn't buy Easy pedals again for that very reason, the £15.00 saving just isn't worth the decreased performance.

Yep - you can buy cleat covers which aren't expensive and you can pop them over the cleat when you get off your bike. It will make sure they last a lot longer.

You can still buy Keo cleats without those rubbers which are, I believe, just on there to prevent you slipping when walking. I tried them once and noticed that the tip does wear off pretty quickly although didn't notice any performance difference on the pedal after it was gone. It might be worth trying the ones without rubber tips (which are also cheaper) to see if they are a better fit and stay snug for longer. With the money you save you could buy a pair of plastic cleat covers to slip on if you do have to walk in your cycling shoes which are far better at protecting the cleat and which out last many sets.
Btw, are you using black, grey or red cleats. Personally I found the red ones to be infuriatingly sloppy and reverted to grey ones much preferring the lesser amount of lateral movement. That might be something else to consider.
