New wheels - Pro-Lite Bracciano

Heh all

Ok, so in the past week or so I've taken my new roadie out (built from a mix of brand new and second user parts). It's my first roadbike and so getting used to the drops, lever positions (and even the LOOK pedals) is going to be a real learning curve.

I had some wheels handbuilt, DT Swiss rims, Planet X Hubs, Sapim CX Ray spokes (very nice they WERE too) ... I say were as on just my 4th ride out, descending a steep hill just 500 meters from my flat ... I went under a car, basically traffic was backed up on a blind bend where usually there is no traffic at all, leaning into said left hand bend, my natural instinct was to hit the left hand brake (as I say, still getting used to drops). I skidded uncontrollably to avoid oncoming traffic and BANG!!!! dished my rear wheel big time under the back of car ... 2

That wheel and its EXPENSIVE spokes are now dust and rather than build another to match I'm considering the Pro-Lite Bracciano's as I've found them at a good price.

Does anyone here have them? Are they tough enough for everyday training (the spoke count is low compared to my 32 hole handbuilt wheels).. I'm about 12.5 stone but will rapidly lose a stone when training more often.

Really interested to hear your thoughts on these as I need to get out and riding again ASAP, my MTB doesnt quite feel the same now I've had the roadie out on the road.

Yeah, Ribble aint got any for FOUR!!!!! months, can you believe it.

Elsewhere they seem to be about £235 / £245, so I may just have to pay that ... the alternative of course is to buy a used set of Krysiums offa Ebay whilst I'm getting used to the handling of a roadbike and then replace them next Spring.

Cheers all!!

Another recommendation here - I had a pair (on a bike that was stolen, so sadly dont have them anymore 2 ) and my dad has a pair. We're both around the 12 stone mark and neither of us have had any durability issues - I rode them for a full year, summer and winter, and they stayed in great nick. My dad's had his for about 18 months and they're still good as new.

If I could find a pair in stock at that price I'd buy another set! Hope you manage to find some.

Cheers Guys

Yeah, it's Ribble I'm looking at, currently on at £ 191.96.

I think I'll bite the bullet and purchase them this morning.

Thanks again.

I can't recommend the Braccianos highly enough, really. They're excellent wheels. They're popular enough that you'll struggle to find some, like pjay says

I have a pair of Braccianos. I only weigh 63kg, so can't really comment on durability for heavier riders, but they are a big upgrade from the Bontrager Selects that came with my bike. The bearings are super-smooth, they accelerate and climb well and feel very stiff.

Good luck finding them in stock. I got mine from Ribble for £185, but I hear they aren't expecting any more for months.
